Definition

Compact Flash. A Compact Flash is a memory card used for data storage. In some components. Spectra uses a CF card to store non-volatile information (firmware files, log files, configuration information, etc.).

Drive Lifecycle Management. DLM is a feature in T-Series libraries that tracks the health of drives, and provides a methodology for testing drives with IBM's built-in drive test. DLM is automatically enabled when MLM (Media Lifecycle Management) is enabled, and the two work in tandem to help differentiate drive problems from media problems.

DLM reports contain information on each drive, such as a history of errors that have occurred on the drive, and what media has been in that drive (as well as the health of the media when it went into, and them came out of, the drive).

Field-Replaceable Unit. A FRU is a library component that can be replaced in the field by a trained field engineer.

Horizontal AXis. This is the axis of horizontal motion in the library.

Library Control Module. The LCM is responsible for controlling the front panel functions of th library, configuring the library settings, and providing Ethernet aiccess for the RLC (Remote Library Controller).

The LCM and RCM (Robotics Control Module) are identical hardware (though there are a few models with slight differences). The library assigns a function to each component based on its position in the library, and runs the appropriate firmware for that component.

Media Lifecycle Management. MLM is a feature in Spectra Logic T-Series libraries that tracks media usage and provides a media health score for tapes. It allows customers to find problematic tapes before they cause drive issues. MLM reports can also be used to differentiate mdia and drive problems.

Remote Library Controller. The RLC provides a browser-based, remote connection to the library's front panel functions. In order to use RLC, the library must be connected to the network via the Ethernet port in the LCM.

The RLC interface is identical to the front panel interface with one distinction: any functions that require physical interaction with the library are not available in the RLC. For example, in the Drives or DLM screen, the "Replace" feature is not available remotely.

Secure Digital Card. An SD card is a memory card used for data storage. The latest generation of LCM and RCM use an SD card to store non-volatile information (firmware files, log files, configuration information, the MLM database, etc.). Earlier version of the LCM and RCM use a CF card for the same function.

Vertical AXis. This is the axis of vertical motion in the library.
